Thomas J. Schripsema, DDS, known to everyone as "Dr. Tom", is a third generation New Mexican.  After graduating from Manzano High School, Dr. Tom attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI, receiving a BA with a major in biology and significant coursework in chemistry and music.  He continued doctoral studies at Creighton University in Omaha, NE graduating with a DDS in 1983.  He has been in private practice here in Albuquerque for over 30 years, which also included two years as a part-time civilian dentist at Kirtland Air Force Base clinic.  Dr. Tom gained expertise in dental laboratory procedures including gold, procelain and denture fabrication while working as a technician in dental school and after.

Dr. Schripsema is a past president of the New Mexico Dental Association and the New Mexico Academy of General Dentistry.  He was vice-chairman of the American Dental Association's Council on Dental Benefits Programs and served on the ADA Code Revision Committee for six years.  Dr. Tom has lectured around the country on subjects relating to dental benefits, coding and peer review.  He also regularly contributes to state and national dental periodicals and publications.

Dr. Tom serves the community and the profession as a volunteer in programs which include Donated Dental Service, One Hope Centro da Vida clinic, NM Mission of Mercy, the Albuquerque Youth Symphony and the Albuquerque Jazz Festival.  He performs regularly on french horn with the Albuquerque Concert Band, the Brasso Profundo brass quintet and other community groups.  He continues to serve the dental profession as chairman of the New Mexico Dental Association's Council on Government Affairs and as a representative from the Albuquerque District Dental Society to the New Mexico Dental Association's House of Delegates.

Dr. Tom's wife, Ronda, retired from APS in 2014 and currently teaches preschool for Eastern Hills Christian Academy.  She is also a church organist and keyboard accompanist.  His three grown children are in college pursuing degrees in music performance, music therapy, music education and pre-medicine.
